more class pictures

Somehow the pictures didn't all get in here. Let's try to add some more.

Sharing and Service

What a wonderful time of year to learn about sharing and giving service to others! We have been very busy preparing for Christmas and practicing our program for the family party on the 20th! There are so many opportunities to give of ourselves. In fact, we are filling the manger with straw for baby Jesus by finding ways to serve others in our class and at home. We have been practicing several songs for you and can't wait to share our talents with you as well. May you feel the Spirit of Christ this Christmas in you own home as you share in the joy of your children.

Our Autumn poem

Well, we took our leaves, twigs and all the words we could think of to help us remember what it felt like outside. We went inside and wrote them all on a huge sheet of paper. We wrote each word on a big leaf and arranged the leaves on our tree to create our very own poem. This is our poem:

It's Autumn Time

Cool, crisp air;
breath in a white cloud
crunchy carpet of leaves

Leaves of green, gold, yellow,
brown, orange and red
Children laughing, running
to the school bus

Birds and clouds in the sky,
alone or together

Spicey sweet cinnamon dirt
purple flowers and shapes
wet grass that sticks to your feet

Cat's meow
Don't the leaves smell good?

The Earth is Amazing

Wow! We have been noticing and discovering so many wonderful things about our earth--animals, seeds, leaves, land and water... there just isn't anything more beautiful than our earth! We read a poem each day about the colors of our earth and now we are writing a poem of our own about fall. Please help me enjoy the wonders of the world around me as I grow and encourage me to participate in taking care of the earth,

Pictures from Joy of the Body

My body helps me everyday

Some of the very best parts of our bodies are the five senses. They all make me happy because they help me learn about things. I am surely grateful for my eyes, ears, nose, tongue and fingers. Through them I can learn to know and love the world.

*Help me notice my senses. Pick something out and let's ask ourselves which of our senses can sense that thing! Since it's autumn, the world is really getting extra beautiful. I can appreciate it with all my senses.

I want to take care of my body by eating good food. I want to brush my teeth and keep my body clean and well rested and healthy!

Next week we'll be using our bodies to discover The Joy of the Earth.

Note: The pictures for this post will be added soon. I am having trouble getting them added.

Joy of the Body

Wow! My body is wonderful. It can do so many things...and it has so many parts! It even has some hinges! We'll be learning about our wonderful bodies this month -- everything from our five senses to how to care for and use the various parts of our bodies. Please talk about these things a lot with me this month and help me understand and appreciate.

Our first week

We had a great start this week getting to know each other and becoming comfortable in our classroom. The children seemed eager to explore some new activities and make some new friends. This was an introduction week and next week we will begin our unit on the Joy of the Body. Hopefully, all parents have received a calendar and a class listing. Your children are a delight and we are very encouraged about the year ahead!

Teach me joy

Joy is loving myself and my neighbors
Joy is growing in body and mind
Joy is facing the problems of each new day
and sharing the love that I can find

Teach me joy, teach me joy,
While I'm young teach me joy.
Teach me to want it, to find it, to know it
And teach me to feel it, to give it, to show it

Please, while I'm young
Teach me joy, teach me joy!

Welcome to our class blog

Here we are at the beginning of a great new year, with new friends and lots of ideas for learning and fun. We will post messages about the units we are practicing and some of our achievements as we go along. Mostly, we focus on recognizing and retaining joy in our lives as we practice skills in our classroom and gain confidence in ourselves and others who love us. Each child has or will receive a CD of their very own for listening to at home or in the car with family. My hope is that they will become very familiar with these songs, which are just a sampling of what we sing in class, but they give you a good feeling for what we've been working on. Enjoy these and look forward to another one around the first of the new year. Here we go...!
